The music of the Canadian bluegrass/folk quartet The Dead South will fill the ears of people passing by the Aboriginal Culture and Education Centre. The Dead South is a bluegrass/folk quartet from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada who formed in 2012. They have done much to define the genre. They often perform In Hell I’ll Be In Good Company, The Recap and Diamond Ring among other songs. On their recent album “Chains & Stakes” (2024) the band continue to evolve and maintain the raw, unpolished sound that they have mastered as a four piece. The Dead South’s distinctive sound is greatly changed when they are set up as a rock band without a drummer, as well as when they are set up as a bluegrass group without a fiddler. The four members of the band are from Canada and have won two JUNO Awards for Traditional Roots Album of the Year, as well as Group of the Year at the 2019 Canadian Independent Music Awards and have achieved Gold level with one of their songs. Their In Hell I’ll Be In Good Company video has reached over 153 million views and they have reached #2 on the US Bluegrass Billboard charts.
Amigo The Devil is a very interesting guy. His music is a dark mix of folk, country, rock and heavy metal, and he has been labeled by fans as the "genre" of Murderfolk. His music is quite intense, and songs such as Hell and You, I Hope Your Husband Dies, One Kind of People and Cocaine and Abel are all part of this extreme genre. His latest album is called Yours Until The War Is Over (2024) and has thought-provoking music and complex structures. He sings a lot about murder, death and despair and even teamed up with producer Ross Robinson, who is known for destroying bands, and has done work for musicians such as At The Drive In, Glassjaw, Eureka The Latun, Slipknot and many more. He started as a solo acoustic artist known as Amigo The Devil, and he recently evolved his music into a full band show which has left fans stunned.
